AI Visibility for auto repair shops

Why doesn’t ChatGPT recommend my auto repair shop?

Drivers ask ChatGPT for a shop that fixes their kind of problem on their kind of vehicle — “diesel truck repair”, “AC not blowing cold”, “mechanic open Saturday” — and it names the shops whose pages list those makes, services and hours. “Full-service auto repair” on a homepage tells it nothing it can match.

What your customers actually type

“honest mechanic near me” “who works on diesel trucks in Lafayette” “car AC not blowing cold, where can I get it fixed today” “mechanic open Saturday near me” “shop that works on European cars near me” “check engine light diagnostic near me”

Each of these is a question the assistant answers by naming a few businesses. The ones it names are the ones whose pages answer that exact question.

“Honest” is a question assistants try to answer

When someone asks for an honest mechanic, assistants look for signals they can read: a written warranty, clear diagnostic fees, how long you’ve been in business, and reviews that mention honesty. If those facts live only in your head, the assistant leans on review sites alone.

What your pages need to say

  • Makes and vehicle types you work on, and ones you don’t: domestic, Asian, European, diesel, fleet.
  • Services by the driver’s words: brakes, AC repair, check engine light, transmissions, alignments, inspections.
  • Diagnostic fee, warranty on parts and labor, certifications you hold.
  • Hours, Saturday availability, appointments or walk-ins, shuttle or loaner.

Auto shop checklist

  1. Makes and vehicle types you service, as text

“Who works on diesels” needs a yes.

  2. Each main service named the way drivers say it

“AC not blowing cold”, not “HVAC systems”.

  3. Warranty terms and diagnostic fee written out

    Readable signals for “honest”.

  4. Certifications you actually hold

    Only what’s true.

  5. Saturday hours, walk-in policy, shuttle or loaner

    Common deciding questions.

  6. Google categories and services filled in

    Feeds the map card.

  7. Bing Places, Yelp and Apple Maps matching

So every assistant gets the same hours.

Check it yourself in five minutes

  1. 1

Open ChatGPT in a private (incognito) window, so it isn't shaped by your own history, and ask: “honest mechanic near me”

  2. 2

Ask the same question two more times, worded a little differently. Answers change from one ask to the next, so one try is not a verdict.

  3. 3

Write down who gets named, in what order, and what it says about each. Then ask it directly about your business by name and check every fact: hours, address, what you sell.

  4. 4

Do the same in Perplexity and Claude if you can. The businesses that show up everywhere are the ones whose facts are clear in the places all of them read.

Questions

Can ChatGPT tell if my shop is honest?

It can only repeat what it reads: your warranty, your prices, your reviews and how you describe your process. Writing those down gives it something accurate to say.

Should I list the vehicles I don’t work on?

Yes. It saves wasted calls and makes the assistant’s answer about you more accurate.

We do fleet work. Does that need its own page?

If you want fleet accounts, yes. A business owner asking “who services company trucks” is a different question from a driver with a check engine light.

Type your shop’s website. We read your homepage the way a search crawler does and list what’s missing: business details assistants look for, page titles and descriptions, and anything hidden from search. Results show right on the page. No card, no account.
